3D Laser Scanning: Building and Architecture
Contracted by Maunsell Australia Pty Ltd, McMullen Nolan conducted 3D laser scanning operations on one of Western Australia's most significant heritage buildings, the East Perth Power Station.
Decommissioned in 1981 the heritage listed building has deteriorated over the years to its current fragile state. Undertaking a laser scanning survey of the building facades, McMullen Nolan were able to perform verification of site structures against existing plans and provided base plans for identification and demarcation of deteriorating areas.
A total of 33 scans were performed over 5 days by a two man team, with subsequent 3D modeling and production of 2D elevation plans and cross-section profiles taking 8 days. The facade 3D model archive will be used for future redevelopment and design work of the East Perth Power Station.
